Fife Council will soon begin work to remove areas of gorse that, if left untreated, could damage some historical monuments within Lochore Meadows Country Park.
Park Manager Ian Laing explained: “Although quite attractive in appearance, gorse is essentially an invasive weed and it is unfortunately now threatening some of the historic monuments on the south side of the loch. To prevent damage to these monuments we have been advised by Historic Environment Scotland that it should be removed.
“I’d like to reassure visitors to the Country Park that whilst it may look like we are removing floral planting from the park, we are in fact undertaking important maintenance work to safeguard these monuments.”
Work to mechanically remove and burn the gorse will be carried out next month.
